About Saint Edmund Elementary School
Located in the Sheepshead Bay area of Brooklyn New York, St. Edmund School is a coeducational Catholic grammar school serving students from Nursery School through 8th Grade.
Founded in 1923 by the Reverend Denis A. Maloney, St. Edmund continues its affiliation with both St. Edmund Parish and the Diocese of Brooklyn. Sister Baptista, the first Principal of St. Edmund School, led a faculty of five Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in teaching Grades One through Five. Within a few years, Grades Six through Eight were added, and the first class graduated in 1927.
The Dominican Sisters were the educational backbone of the school for over 60 years, and left behind a rich heritage and tradition of Catholic education, one which is still faithfully administered by the lay men and women of the faculty and staff, and especially by the current Principal, Mrs. Andrea D'Emic, and the current Pastor, Father David Dettmer.
St. Edmund Preparatory High School, founded in 1962, is located next door, and we enjoy a close, ongoing relationship. Many of our graduates go on to high school at St. Edmund Prep.
Graduation and Success
The class of 2009 received over $80,000 in scholarships, and were accepted to many of New York's most prestigious high schools. Recent graduates have gone on to attend schools such as:

* St. Savior
* Staten Island Tech
* Bishop Kearney
* Brooklyn Tech
* Dominican Academy
* Fontbonne Hall Academy
* Laguardia School for the Performing Arts
St. Edmund is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. We follow the guidelines and curriculum established by the State of New York and the Diocese of Brooklyn. In addition, the principal, in conjunction with the faculty, implements all programs to provide a curriculum that goes beyond the basic standards. We continually use new advances in computer technology to access information and techniques that will further enhance our educational environment. Because of the unique relationship between St. Edmund Elementary and St. Edmund Prep, we are able to offer our students opportunities such as Advanced Math and English Programs, Concert Band, Instrumental Instruction, Chorus and Chimes Choir.
St. Edmund also has a fully wired, internet capable building with a PC lab, a PC in every classroom and a number of Mac computers. Our brand new, dedicated Science Lab opened in 2009, along with our new Library. St. Edmund also has a Media Center, Music Room and a gymnasium.
