Greetings St. Gregory School Families!

It is my pleasure to welcome you all to the 2016-2017 school year. The teachers and staff are excited and look forward to the beginning of a new year. I hope you had a wonderful summer break filled with great memories. I am delighted for the opportunities that await your children this year; your child is attending a school with a tradition of excellence.
As you send your child to his/her new teacher, and for many to a new school, I hope that you will join me in setting high expectations. I expect challenging and engaging instruction along with regular communication from teachers and the school. During the year you will see more use of assessments to guide planning and instruction from Preschool through 8th grade. As part of our ongoing communication, we are using a new program called Bloomz. As you may have seen in an email, Bloomz is a new app that helps parents stay on top of what’s happening in their kids’ classroom. It works on both your smartphone and computer, and will help you receive quick updates from the teacher, see pictures of classroom activities, access the class calendar and more. We will continue using the same methods of communication as we did before; therefore, it is not necessary for you to be on Bloomz. If you decide you would like to be a part of it, you can adjust your settings so you are not receiving the notifications.

We have a lot of exciting things happening at St. Gregory School. We welcomed our new Pastor, Father Jim Young. We hope he is as thrilled as we are, and we want to welcome him into our St. Gregory family. I would also like to welcome Matthew Dunker to the St. Gregory School staff. Mr. Dunker will be our new middle-level science and health teacher. Mr. Dunker has a passion for Catholic education, and I know he is going to improve our already impressive middle school. Finally, our gymnasium floor is complete and it is beautiful!

Make sure you check our website www.stgregzelie.org for the most up-to-date information. You will find a lot of information here including: OptionC grading system, FACTS, Bloomz, the Student Handbook, absentee forms, staff email, calendars, and more.

St. Gregory School is “Fired Up For Faith”!  Every day, we will continue to use Sadlier’s new Catholic Identity LinksTM. This is a “K–8 online program uniquely developed to rally [our] school community around the common goal of strengthening Catholic Identity.”  We will focus on 52 virtues and values—one for every week of the year. The teachers will use short lessons, homily hints, prayers, Scripture references, and more. Each virtue and value promotes Catholic Identity so that we can strengthen your child’s bond with Jesus Christ. To encourage this, each time a child performs a good deed he/she will be rewarded with a fish sticker. They will be able to turn in their stickers for various prizes.  We will also continue with the Christian Leadership Award. This award will be given in June. The names of the winners each year will be displayed in the lobby.

St. Gregory School and the Zelienople Police Department are teaming up again this year!  As part of our ongoing effort to provide the best safety and security at St. Gregory School, we have asked the department to be involved again with St. Gregory School.  Similar to last year, a Zelienople police officer will make a visit or two to the school each day.  We are thrilled to continue this great partnership with the department.

I look forward to seeing you at school activities. Your presence is not only welcomed, but it is greatly needed!  Our PTG is a great way to get involved.  Everyone is part of the St. Gregory School family.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.

God Bless,

Mrs. Harris
Principal
